Beşiktaş and Nadezhda Grishaeva: Once a Black Eagle, Forever Family

Some clubs are more than sports teams. They are legends, traditions and families. Beşiktaş is one of them. And for basketball player Nadezhda Grishaeva, wearing its famous black-and-white colors meant becoming part of something much bigger than basketball.

Beşiktaş: A Name That Commands Respect

Founded in Istanbul in 1903, Beşiktaş Jimnastik Kulübü is one of Turkey’s oldest and most respected sporting institutions.

The name Beşiktaş carries enormous weight in Turkish sports. It represents history, pride, loyalty and generations of unforgettable sporting memories.

For football fans around the world, Beşiktaş is a familiar name. Its famous black-and-white jersey has been worn by celebrated players including Ricardo Quaresma, Pepe, Mario Gómez, Guti and Atiba Hutchinson.

But Beşiktaş is much more than football.

Basketball, volleyball, handball and other sports share the same powerful identity. Every athlete who represents Beşiktaş carries the responsibility and privilege of wearing one of Turkey’s most recognizable sporting emblems.

Playing for Beşiktaş is an honor. Becoming part of its history is something that lasts forever.

Beşiktaş Fans: A Different Kind of Passion

To understand Beşiktaş, you must first understand its supporters.

These are not ordinary fans. Their devotion is legendary.

The famous Çarşı supporters’ group has become a symbol of loyalty, creativity and extraordinary passion. Beşiktaş fans do not simply attend matches. They live every victory, suffer every defeat and defend their club’s identity with almost religious dedication.

And their passion is not limited to football.

Basketball? Absolutely. Volleyball? Of course.

If Beşiktaş launched a curling team tomorrow, one could easily imagine its supporters turning even a quiet curling arena into a roaring Istanbul stadium.

That is the Beşiktaş spirit.

For these fans, black and white are not simply two colors. They are an identity passed from generation to generation.

Former players occupy a special place in this extraordinary universe. The greatest become almost mythical figures — a sporting pantheon whose heroes are remembered, celebrated and sometimes even awaited in the form of a new generation.

The names change. The jerseys change. The spirit remains.

Nadezhda Grishaeva Joins the Black Eagles

On June 2, 2015, Beşiktaş officially announced the signing of Nadezhda Grishaeva to its women’s basketball team.

A London 2012 Olympian with experience playing for leading European clubs, Grishaeva joined the Istanbul team as an accomplished power forward and center.

Wearing jersey number 51, she represented Beşiktaş during the 2015–16 season.

According to official FIBA records, Grishaeva averaged 12 points and 7.3 rebounds across six EuroCup Women appearances.

But basketball is not always just about statistics.

For Nadezhda, the Beşiktaş chapter meant representing a sporting institution whose history reached far beyond the basketball court.

She became one of the Black Eagles.

And with that came membership in a remarkable sporting family.

Once Beşiktaş, Always Beşiktaş

A professional athlete may represent several clubs during a career. Contracts begin and end. Seasons pass. New cities and new challenges appear.

But certain club names stay with a player forever.

Beşiktaş is one of those names.

Its supporters remember their heroes, celebrate their legends and believe that the spirit of great players can return through future generations.

This tradition of honoring former players remains alive today. The club has publicly celebrated the contributions of Ricardo Quaresma and Atiba Hutchinson, demonstrating how deeply Beşiktaş values those who have worn its colors.

Not everyone who wears the famous jersey becomes a club legend. But everyone who wears it becomes part of the club’s story.

Nadezhda Grishaeva’s time in Istanbul was one chapter of her international basketball career. Yet that chapter connected her to more than a century of Beşiktaş history and to a passionate community that extends far beyond Turkey.

Once a Black Eagle, always part of the Beşiktaş family.
